Tuesday started off with an early morning departure to ensure we’d make it to Chester by 09:30. Unfortunately, we both overlooked the fact that our location offers a direct and hassle-free route to North Wales and into Chester—no motorways required! Naturally, we couldn’t resist the temptation of a challenge, so we jumped onto the motorway… only to find ourselves stuck in traffic as dense as a tin of sardines! (Maybe one day I’ll convince the accounts team that a helicopter would be a worthwhile investment.)
Despite arriving slightly later than planned at Columbus McKinnon Corporation (CMCO), we were warmly welcomed by Lee Carter and introduced to the rest of the team. It was truly gratifying to finally meet the faces behind the names of the incredible individuals we’ve been collaborating with daily for years now. Their professionalism and dedication have always shone through our interactions, but meeting them in person brought everything into sharper focus.
Following introductions, Ellis and I embarked on a comprehensive tour of CMCO’s impressive production facility. Witnessing the meticulous craftsmanship involved in producing the equipment we sell daily was nothing short of awe-inspiring. Every detail, no matter how small, is given careful consideration, and their commitment to quality extends far beyond industry norms. Their rigorous testing processes and extensive data sets set them apart from most manufacturers. It’s refreshing to see such high standards upheld within the UK, especially when so many products are manufactured overseas. The Camlok and Steerman product lines are proudly made in the UK, and this dedication to local manufacturing is evident in every component.
Our visit wrapped up with a productive working lunch with Steve Sherwin (MD), Rob Wood (Sales Manager), and Lee Carter. We explored several new avenues for collaboration and growth, which has us excited about the future. Both Ellis and I left feeling enriched by the experience and deeply grateful for the warm hospitality extended by everyone at CMCO. They’re not just partners; they’re family.
On the way back, we decided to take the scenic route home. After all, lessons learned—and enjoyed—are best shared with good company!
