**Abstract** On the afternoon of June 9, 2013, the Zhengzhou Abrasives Grinding Research Institute, located at No. 121 Wutong Street in the High-tech Zone of Zhengzhou City, was getting ready for a grand opening ceremony. This event marked a significant milestone in the institute's long and proud history, celebrating its 55th anniversary with enthusiasm and pride. Superhard Materials Network News reported that the celebration, themed “Three Grindings,” honored the institute’s founding and the completion of key projects over the years. The event took place in the second-floor lecture hall and included an awards ceremony, a photo exhibition, and various cultural performances. The ceremony was attended by several key leaders, including Zhu Feng, the director of the Zhengzhou Sanmao Research Institute, Liu Mingyao, deputy director and vice chairman of the labor union, Qiu Lihua, and Chen Feng, another deputy director. Representatives from previous leaderships and nearly 400 employees also joined the celebration, showing their support and pride in the institute’s achievements. The event began with an awards ceremony, where certificates and prizes were given to winners of the essay and photography contests under the themes “Commemoration of the 55th Anniversary of the Founding of the Archives” and “Celebrating the 55th Anniversary of the Construction of the Old Photo and the Exhibition of Three Grinding Works.” Leaders from the institute, along with representatives from the general office and trade union, presented the awards and took group photos with the recipients. Following the awards, the cultural performance commenced with a lively dance called “Happy Heaven,” featuring energetic movements and red lanterns that symbolized the passion and love of the staff for the institute. The program included a wide range of performances such as dances, choral singing, poetry recitations, solo acts, and comedic dialogues—totaling around 30 different acts. Each performance not only provided a visual and auditory feast but also reflected the spirit of perseverance, diligence, and pride of the Sanmo people. One particularly moving scene depicted “People paddling a big ship,” where everyone joined hands and worked together, symbolizing unity and strength. The leaders and middle-level management also participated in the performance, setting a great example and showing their dedication to the institute. At the end of the show, the song “Tomorrow Will Be Better” expressed hope for the future of Zhengzhou Sanmao. The staff sang with full enthusiasm, expressing their deep love for the institute and its bright future. This cultural performance marked the first literary event for the staff since 1988, making it a special occasion for many. Since its establishment on June 12, 1958, the Zhengzhou Sanmao Research Institute has achieved over 1,270 research results, with nearly 150 winning national, provincial, and ministerial-level science and technology awards. More than 550 achievements have been promoted and applied nationwide, establishing China’s superhard materials industry and contributing significantly to the development of abrasives and superhard materials. Fifty-five years of golden years have witnessed the hard work, innovation, and progress of the institute. It is a story of perseverance, creativity, and success—a colorful chapter in the history of Chinese scientific research.
