Maixi is a specialized herbicide suspension containing 33 g/L azosulfuron and 25 g/L diflufenacil, making it an effective broad-spectrum solution for controlling various broadleaf weeds in wheat fields. It is particularly useful against common weeds such as cleavers, chickweed, shepherd's purse, wild mustard, and rape. The formulation also demonstrates strong efficacy against the weed known as "Ze paint," providing long-lasting control.
Once applied, sensitive weeds typically stop growing within a few hours. Visible symptoms like yellowing, reddening, and browning usually appear within 10 to 15 days, with complete weed death occurring around 30 days post-application. Maixi remains stable even at low temperatures, including as low as 2°C, which makes it suitable for use during cooler periods of the year.
This herbicide can be applied over a wide window of time and is effective against tall weeds as well. It works well on pigweed plants that are more than 5 cm tall and is especially beneficial for cruciferous weeds like wild radish, amaranth, and barnyard grass that have entered the flowering stage. Its high level of effectiveness allows for an extended application period in wheat fields, typically from late November through late January.
Importantly, Maixi does not show any antagonistic effects when combined with other herbicides such as Hummer or Isoprolong. According to the China Pesticide Network, Maixi is biodegradable and breaks down quickly in soil due to microbial activity, reducing the risk of accumulation. At recommended doses, it is safe for wheat, barley, and sorghum crops. However, its active ingredient, oxasulfuron, has a longer residual effect in the soil, lasting up to three months under photolysis conditions. Because of this, it should not be used on crops such as cotton, sugar beet, rapeseed, sunflower, sorghum, or tomatoes.
For optimal results, Maixi is applied when weeds are in the 2–6 leaf stage, with 10 grams of product mixed in 30–45 kg of water per acre. If grass weeds are also present, additional treatments such as 10 ml of glufosinate per mu, 50 ml of paraquat, or 100–150 grams of isoproturon can be added for enhanced control. As a suspension concentrate, Maixi requires a second dilution before application to ensure proper mixing and uniform distribution.
