Press Fitting Method for NTN Bearings with Cylindrical Holes
Source: China Bearing Network | Date: July 23, 2013
When installing NTN bearings with cylindrical holes, the press fitting method is commonly used. This technique involves pressing the bearing onto the shaft or into the housing. For small NTN bearings, a press is typically used to apply even pressure on the inner ring, ensuring a secure fit without damaging the raceway. It's important to lubricate the contact surfaces before installation to reduce friction and prevent damage. In cases where a hammer is used, it's advisable to place a wooden block or similar material on the inner ring to avoid direct impact. However, this method should only be used for small clearances, as it can cause damage in cases of large interference fits or for larger bearings. For non-separable bearings such as deep groove ball bearings, both the inner and outer rings must be pressed together using a suitable device. A pad, screw, or hydraulic press may be used to ensure proper alignment and prevent misalignment. For self-aligning ball bearings, the outer ring is prone to tilting, so it's recommended to use a support block even if there is no interference fit. In the case of separable bearings like cylindrical roller or tapered roller bearings, the inner and outer rings can be installed separately onto the shaft and housing. When assembling them individually, care must be taken to align the components properly to avoid any misalignment that could lead to raceway damage. Proper installation techniques are essential to ensure the longevity and performance of NTN bearings. Always follow manufacturer guidelines and use the appropriate tools for each type of bearing.
