Newly developed 3D texture solar cells will be tested on the space station next year

According to recent reports, a groundbreaking 3D-textured solar cell is set to undergo testing aboard the International Space Station (ISS) in the coming year. With the ISS orbiting Earth approximately every 90 minutes, it experiences 16 sunrises daily, offering an ideal environment for maximizing solar energy collection.

The initiative was proposed by Dr. Jude Redi, a professor of materials science at Qiao Yai University of Technology. His research aims to evaluate how these 3D textured solar cells perform in the extreme conditions of space. The experiment has already been approved by the Center for the Advancement of Science in Space (CASIS), marking a significant step forward in space-based renewable energy research.

This innovative solar cell technology is built using carbon nanotubes and features a layer of light-absorbing material on its surface. It will be sent to the ISS next year, where it will be installed on the Nanoracks external platform for real-world performance analysis.

Dr. Redi mentioned that scientists have developed an ultra-efficient solar cell capable of being connected via a USB port. For many years, the ISS has served as a vital orbital laboratory for researchers, students, and scientists, enabling a wide range of experiments in microgravity and space environments.

The installation of these new solar panels will be one of the first major external experiments conducted on the ISS. The panels are designed to capture sunlight from any direction, allowing the team to quickly assess their efficiency in different orientations.

The test will focus on a solar cell coated with a copper zinc-tin sulfide (CZTS) film. Unlike traditional flat solar cells, this 3D structure allows sunlight to penetrate deeper into the cell’s internal layers, enhancing energy absorption and reducing reflection. This could lead to more efficient power generation in space and potentially on Earth as well.

Apron Sink

Apron sink

The apron sink front protrudes slightly from the supporting cabinets, eliminating countertops that cause users to lean forward and over-stress. At the same time, this practical design helps prevent Cabinet damage.

Apron Front Installation Sinks

An apron sink is a Kitchen Sink that rises slightly above the counter. Apply in farmhouse, villa and apatrtment.

High quality SUS304 customize sizes and colors. Advanced PVD color and NANO finish satisfy different design kitchen.
