At China Aluminum Industry Co., Ltd., we often encounter surface imperfections such as longitudinal or lateral grooves and scratches on aluminum extrusion products. These scratches typically originate from foreign particles trapped on the mold surface or from rough machining during the empty knife process. Convex-type scratches that appear at the corners of the product are usually caused by cracks in the extrusion die. Lateral scratches, on the other hand, are often the result of hard objects protruding from the cooling bed during the transportation of the product from the sliding table to the cutting table. In addition, scratches can also occur during the loading and handling of the material.
Scratches and surface defects are common challenges in the aluminum extrusion process, but they can be minimized through proper control measures. To address these issues, the following steps are recommended:
1) Ensure that the working surface of the extrusion die is smooth and free from any irregularities. A well-maintained die reduces the chances of surface damage during the extrusion process.
2) Carefully inspect the mold during installation to avoid using dies with even small cracks. Proper design of the mold radius is also crucial to prevent stress concentration and potential cracking during extrusion.
3) Regularly check the cooling bed and finished product storage area for any hard objects or debris that could scratch the surface of the aluminum profiles. Keeping these areas clean is essential for maintaining product quality.
4) When loading and transporting the materials, handle them gently and avoid sudden movements. Using appropriate lifting equipment and ensuring smooth operations can significantly reduce the risk of surface damage.
By implementing these preventive measures, we can improve the overall quality of our aluminum extrusion products and meet the high standards expected by our customers. It's important to remain vigilant throughout the entire production process to identify and eliminate potential causes of surface defects early on.
