HC Plastics News: As part of the New Energy Industry Technology Development Agency (NEDO) project in Japan, Asahi Kasei has verified the newly developed diphenyl carbonate (DPC) production process, and DPC is a polycarbonate (PC). ) monomer. Asahi Kasei's Okayama Plant in Okayama Prefecture, Japan, produces DPCs from the production of carbonic acid diester (DRC) to produce parts for automobiles and household appliances. The stability and operability of the process have been confirmed after more than 1,000 hours of production operations. Compared to general production methods, this production process has successfully reduced energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions, while also using carbon dioxide as a safe raw material.

Asahi Kasei will continue to validate the economics and energy efficiency of this new process and further optimize this highly energy-efficient production process using carbon dioxide.

In the past two years, Asahi Kasei's Mizushima production base (Kurashi City, Okayama Prefecture, Japan) used this production process to achieve DPC's annual production capacity of 1,000 tons.

As part of the NEDO project, Asahi Kasei began construction of a verification plant at its Water Island production site in 2015 to validate its newly developed DRC DPC production process and solve problems encountered in application production through practice. This production process demonstrates its stability and operability after more than 1,000 hours of continuous operation. Asahi Kasei has successfully stabilized the non-phosgene production process using carbon dioxide as a safe raw material, which not only reduces energy consumption, but also reduces carbon dioxide emissions.

Asahi Kasei will continue to validate the economics and energy efficiency of this new process and strive to achieve further optimization. Specifically, the company's goal is to commercialize this highly energy-efficient new production process that uses carbon dioxide to reduce energy consumption by increasing production, and to stabilize this stable production technology by optimizing operating conditions and equipment. The verification of this production process will strengthen Asahi Kasei's license business, which was used by Asahi Kasei to affirm the use of PC's non-phosgene production process, which is currently in production in China, Korea, Taiwan, Russia and Saudi Arabia.

The production process of DPC made by DRC is a technology developed by Asahi Kasei under the support of the NEDO project. Catalysts catalyze the reaction of carbon dioxide and alcohol to obtain DRC, and then react with DRC and phenol to obtain DPC. We have verified the feasibility of this DPC production process through long-term continuous operation, and evaluated the recycling and catalytic performance of the catalyst during the reaction of DRC and phenol to DPC during the reaction to generate carbon dioxide and alcohol.
