The solid oxide electrolysis cell (SOEC) can convert CO2 and H2O into syngas and hydrocarbon fuel at the cathode and produce high-purity O2 at the anode. It has an all-solid and modular structure, fast reaction rate, high energy efficiency and low cost And other advantages, showing great potential application prospects in CO2 conversion and renewable clean electric energy storage.

Perovskite is a widely studied SOEC cathode material, but its catalytic activity is low. Dissolving metal nanoparticles in situ at the perovskite cathode to construct a highly active metal-oxide interface can effectively improve the CO2 electrolysis performance. The reversible dissolution / dissolution of metal nanoparticles in perovskite is an effective method to solve the electrolytic performance degradation caused by particle agglomeration and carbon deposition during the long-term operation of SOEC. However, the reversible dissolution / dissolution mechanism of perovskite materials is still unclear and further research is urgently needed.

In response to the above problems, the research team studied in-situ X-ray diffraction, environmental scanning electron microscopy, scanning transmission electron microscopy and density functional theory calculations of CoFe alloy nanoparticles in Sr2Fe1.5Mo0.5O6-δ (SFMC) double perovskite In-situ dissolution / dissolution process in the mine. Under the reducing atmosphere, the easy desolubilization of Co promotes the reduction of Fe ions, forming spherical CoFe alloy nanoparticles on the surface of SFMC, with the SFMC structure changing from double perovskite to layered perovskite; when switching to an oxidizing atmosphere, The spherical CoFe alloy nanoparticles are oxidized into CoFeOx nanosheets and migrate into the interior of the perovskite. At the same time, the SFMC structure is changed from layered perovskite to double perovskite. The in-situ dissolution of CoFe alloy nanoparticles causes the SFMC cathode to exhibit significantly enhanced CO2 electrolysis performance and stability. In addition, due to the excellent regeneration ability of CoFe alloy nanoparticles, even after 12 redox cycles, the SFMC cathode can still maintain stable CO2 electrolysis performance.
