New Solar Panel Technology Receives IET's Top Engineering Award

The world’s leading engineering organization, the British Engineering Technology Society (IET), announced that Australian engineer Stuart Wenham has won the IET AF Harvey Engineering Research Award for high-performance, low-cost solar panel innovations, with a bonus of £300,000.

Professor Stuart Wenham from the University of New South Wales led his team to study and found a way to compensate for silicon's deficiencies by controlling hydrogen atoms. Silicon is the most costly part of solar cells and is used to produce low-quality silicon. The solar cells outperformed with high-quality raw materials. It was this technology that allowed Prof. Wenham to stand out from the best candidates from all over the world and successfully won this award.

Prof. Wenham said: “I am deeply honored that our breakthrough technology won the IET AF Harvey Engineering Research Award and international recognition. The UNSW research team has always maintained a leading position in the field of silicon solar cell performance. This time it is We have successfully discovered a way to control the hydrogen atoms in the charge state of silicon, and we will cooperate with the world's largest manufacturer to commercialize this low-cost technology. The rich prizes for this award are great for us to push this technology to the next stage. benefit."

Barry Brooks, President of IET, stated: “Professor Wenham has played a key role in the wide development of silicon solar cell technology. His pioneering research and internationally recognized leading position in this field has effectively promoted the commercialization of this technology. The Global Renewable Energy Research Group will also benefit from it. His award for AF Harvey is undoubtedly worthy of its name. I believe engineers around the world will also be motivated."

The British Academy of Engineering Technology AF Harvey Engineering Research Award was named after the late IET member Dr. AF Harvey. Dr. Harvey donated a large amount of property to IET before his death and established a trust fund named after him for the purpose of medical, microwave, Excellent research in laser and radar engineering is rewarded. The AF Harvey Engineering Research Award began in 2011 and is open to engineers around the world. It is awarded annually to outstanding research talents in engineering-related fields. The winnings will be used as research fees for the winners and their research teams.

In 2013, the British Academy of Engineering Technology awarded a total of more than £1 million in prizes, bonuses and scholarships to reward outstanding engineers in engineering and encourage young engineers and technicians.
