Hainan is now introducing a new system that allows pensioners to complete their qualification certification through facial recognition. According to the Hainan Provincial Personnel, Labor, and Social Security Information Center, this initiative is being rolled out across the province this month, making it easier for retirees to verify their eligibility from anywhere.
Thanks to the use of basic internet-enabled computers and cameras with at least 1.2 million pixels, the process has become more accessible than ever. This means even those with limited technical resources can now participate in the certification process without needing to visit an office in person.
"Previously, we had to travel to social insurance agencies and wait in long lines," said Director Wu Sheng from the Hainan Provincial Personnel, Labor, and Social Security Information Center. "With facial recognition, the process is much more accurate and convenient, especially for those living outside the province or in remote areas."
As of now, cities like Haikou, Sanya, and Luhu have already implemented this system. The remote certification feature has proven particularly beneficial for elderly individuals who no longer need to travel for verification.
At the Silver Lake Community in Haikou, retired couple Wu Fucai and Lin Xuehuan shared their positive experience. They used to have to travel back to Quzhou to complete their certification, but this year, they were able to do it in just two minutes using the facial recognition system. Their information was already on file, so they were approved instantly.
Since the implementation of the system in March 2014, over 2,000 remote certifications have been completed in Haikou alone, with 99% of those being elderly residents living outside the province. A few individuals are even certified while abroad.
For those interested in trying the system, there are two main ways to access it. One option is through a social security self-service machine. After inserting your ID card or social security card, you can select the "Face Recognition" option and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.
Alternatively, you can use a regular computer with a camera. By accessing the "Hainan Social Security Face Recognition Video Authentication Management System" online, entering your ID number, and following the prompts, you can complete both "modeling" and "certification" from home.
The Provincial Personnel, Labor, and Social Security Information Center also noted that traditional methods such as fingerprint or manual authentication are still available for those who prefer them. However, the new facial recognition system offers a more efficient and user-friendly alternative for pensioners across the province.
