New materials can increase solar cell efficiency by recycling solar photons

Solar cells tap this huge source of energy by converting light energy into electricity. The increase in the conversion efficiency of solar cells depends on increasing the number of photons absorbed. According to foreign media reports, researchers at the University of Cambridge have recently developed a synthetic material called mixed lead halide perovskite that can recover the photons of the sun, leading to a significant increase in the efficiency of solar cells.

The solar cells absorb electrons generated by the photons and derive outward currents. However, the use of perovskite materials allows the charge to be converted back into photons. If we can develop solar cells that can reuse these photons, we will greatly increase the efficiency of light conversion.

University of Cambridge researchers Felix Deschler said that this new material will open up new ways to maximize the efficiency of solar cells. This method of preparation is not complicated, but the efficiency of the technology will be far beyond what is currently achieved.

Previously, scientists from the Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and the Swiss Center for Electronics and Microelectronics Technology (CSEM) used double-junction III-V/Si solar photovoltaic cells to achieve a non-condensing conversion efficiency of 29.8%.

Pixel Mosaic Filter

Pixel-level mosaic filter, reference color filter RGB channel arrangement, will be a number of micro-, meter-level spectral channels in accordance with certain rules arranged into a spectral period, a number of spectral period to mosaic, the way arranged on the filter surface. The physical size of the filter can be customized according to the pixel size of the detector, so that the spectral channel can be aligned with the detector pixel one by one.
