Jiangsu Dafeng's initial results in the extraction of biodiesel from microalgae

Biodiesel is a clean, renewable energy source. It is generally made from soybeans, rapeseeds, oil palms, and cedarwood. However, in Dafeng, Jiangsu, microalgae energy technology that has achieved preliminary research results will make microalgae a promising raw material for biodiesel.

The research on the extraction of diesel from microalgae has been completed in Dafeng, and the pilot plant will be developed in the near future. Gao Weiping, a graduate student of Nangong University who used the experiments at the Dafeng Offshore Biological Institute in summer, said that once this project is successful and brought to market, the saline-alkali land where large areas of microalgae grow will likely become a “big oil field”.

Eat "carbon" spit "oil", micro-algae has shown great power. The reason why people are optimistic about this project is that microalgae are rich in resources, and they do not destroy ecosystems due to harvesting, and can cultivate large amounts of land without occupying cultivated land. At the same time, the unit production of microalgae is several hundred times that of corn, which can produce 15,000 liters per hectare - 80,000 liters of biodiesel.
